Budapest

We’ve been there before. It was a different experience this time but our purpose, this time, was the Danube River and ports we had not visited before.

In 2014, on a tour with “Journeys with Jeff”, we visited the Zsolnay Porcelain factory & museum, had a dinner of Hungarian goulash, while enjoying music & dance.
This time we drove through areas, some we’ve seen before, some new to us, but all a delight to see in this beautiful and historic pair of cities.

In the council district of Budapest, the Matthias Church soars in gleaming Gothic glory. Named for Hungary‘s most beloved medieval king, it boasts geometric patterns on its roof and splendid stained glass windows. Adjacent to the church, the expanse of wall, and seven torrents of Fishermans bastion overlook the Danube, the graceful chain bridge, and the Pest side of the river. This popular spot, built in 1905, was named for the mid evil guild that once defended this portion of the castle wall. The centerpiece of the district is the sprawling Buddha castle. Constructed in the 13th century, and expanded to its current baroque splendor in the 18th century, this edifice was home to hungry kings for almost 700 years.
