Dominica (pronounced "Dom-in-eek-a") is a British island. An island truly unique in its lushness and natural beauty, (and not to be confused with the Dominican Republic), Dominica has mountain peaks that are the highest in the Caribbean. It's valleys are covered with lush forests; one of the last oceanic rain forests in the world. Exotic flora and Impressive waterfalls are found throughout the island.
One would think that Dominica would soon blow its top given its many bubbling ponds and sulphur springs. But while nearby islands such as Montserra and Martinique erupt, Dominica just stays comfortably warm.
The rugged, unspoiled landscape had us opting for one of the simpler tours of this island. We chose the spectacular Trafalgar Falls where we could bathe in the rocky pools at the foot of the mother falls. We walked the rugged trails leading to Emerald Pool. And - we purchased refreshments and gift items along Castle Bruce Road.
One day on this island is not enough. It is the same and yet so different. Many ponds, much forest, the smell of sulfur, the gentle mist of falling water. They are all around. They are everywhere. But they are all so different.
