We had such a good time at our reunion in Itasca State Park in 2007 that we thought we would venture there again in 2010. The only thing we wanted to improve was to be less spread out. In 2007 we rented two large cabins for some of us and others were at the campground.

At midnight, exactly one year prior to our intended retreat (the soonest we could make reservations) we called and reserved the entire Itasca Club House.

Located on a high bluff overlooking Lake Itasca, the Clubhouse is perhaps the most extraordinary Rustic Style building in the state park system. Built in approximately 1911, the Clubhouse is a two-story symmetrical structure constructed with peeled logs with saddle-notched corners. However, the building's most unusual feature is a mansard roof with flared eaves and bell-shaped dormer windows. The finely crafted interior contains 10 sleeping rooms organized around a two-story Rustic Style great living room featuring a balcony with log posts and railings.

Our entry was first into a large screened in porch that extended the entire width of the structure. Then into the
large log living room with stone fireplace. We used the front porch as our kitchen and one of the bedrooms as a play room for our young grandchildren.

Beyond the porch, a view of Itasca lake and a wonderful grassy area equipped with an open fire pit and picnic table to enjoy our meals at.

Close by were beautiful trails for walks or bikes.
