This reunion habit is getting serious now. Families grow, and now some grandkids have a “significant other”. We need more room.

We are trying to experience a “full participation” family reunion every 2 years now. Our previous reunion (in 2016), was at Timberlodge near Ely Minnesota. This year we chose to repeat a choice to stay at the Club House at Itasca State Park, a facility we stayed at in 2010. To assure that we would be able to rent the entire Club House, we made our reservations exactly one second after midnight and one year before our intended date, which is the soonest that reservations can take place.

This time, as well as renting the entire 10 bedroom Club House, we have grown to a point where we needed to rent a couple of additional suites as well. My sister, who lives in Buenos Aires Argentina, and her youngest son, joined us as well. Our five kids, ten grandkids, some of whom now have significant others, and us, just would not fit in the Club House alone. Most of us live near the twin cities but others came from California or Argentina.

Here we spent three days reminiscing about days past, going on journeys, by foot or by bike, within the confines of this beautiful park, walking across the source of the Mississippi River, and creating wonderful meals in and out of our facilities.

When back to my home, the family of my oldest son stayed a few days longer, and my sister and nephew stayed an additional two plus weeks.
