Medora ND

Jul 2024

A road trip with good friends, (the six of us call ourselves “The old farts”), left the twin cities in the summer of 2024 in a 6 passenger car, toward the little town of Medora ND to experience a number of entertaining events the town has to offer. During five days, ranging in temperatures up to 111 degrees, we still enjoyed a number of entertaining events.
Our first day, after a long days drive, we entered our rented home, then just walked the streets of this small town until heat persuaded us to return to our cool rental home.

The following day we had breakfast with Joe Wiegand who, I believe, is the world’s best Theodore Roosevelt reprisor, both as an orator and in looks. As an actor and historian, his portrayals of Theodore Roosevelt in the live performance, had us wondering if TR had come back to life.

Later that day we went to the Medora Musical. It's an ode to country music, America, Theodore Roosevelt, and the surrounding Badlands – performed live and outside. It had a little history, some corny humor, and lots of western hoopla.
The very hot third day had us driving in our air conditioned vehicle through the magnificent Theodore Roosevelt national Park. The south units scenic drive is 48 miles long when complete, but shortened today because of some road construction. It begins and ends in Medora. Driving it took about 2 hours.

On day 4 we discovered the bar at the famous Rough Riders Roosevelt Hotel. Her we had drinks that looked as good as they tasted. The bartender was very engaging and we were filmed by some production company for what purpose we never discovered.
Day 5. The long journey back to our twin cities homes. All is good.
