We’ve been to Illinois on numerous occasions. In Chicago, as a young man, I studied programming languages as well as systems analysis there. My wife had a medical conference in Chicago and I tagged along to participate in the wining and dining experience that was offered to us there. In the same city we visited a friend that had helped us during our mission to Madagascar where we installed computers in schools and medical facilities. In Springfield we visited Lincoln’s home as well as the museum created in his honor.
Anytime someone travels east from Minnesota by car, avoiding Illinois is usually not an option.
2015 Springfield
In 2015, Ramona and I chose to celebrate the end of my first year of being cancer free by driving to Kentucky to visit places that Kentucky is best known for - Bourbon & Horses.
On the way, while passing through Illinois, we stayed a night in Springfield and visited the home and museum of Abraham Lincoln. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum traces the life of the 16th U.S. president. Lincoln's restored home is nearby.
We also visited the Lincoln Tomb at the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Later we visited the Dana-Thomas House which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
