2017 Lincoln

In August of 2017, with friends, Ramona & I drove to Lincoln NE to see the total eclipse of the sun, scheduled for August 21 of that year. We rented an Airbnb for a couple of nights but went to our friend’s daughters house to view this event.

So, on Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America was treated to an eclipse of the sun. Being within the path of totality we could see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This is when the moon slipped in front of the sun, blocking the rays from hitting Earth and resulted in a gorgeous solar eclipse. Birds stopped chirping. Everything went quiet. I’m sure the animals were confused.

We had purchased sun protective glasses for each of us, but the best view from using a shield used by welders, that one of our friends brought

1982 Karney

During a period during the early 1980's, I developed a computer program for independent hotels. PC's were just being introduced to the public and I, then owning a motel myself, thought it would be a good idea to automate the needs of the small motel owner. I called the system MARS (Motel Accounting & Reservation System). To market the system, Ramona and I frequently had a presence at State Hospitality Conventions. Nebraska, in Karney, had hosted the convention for that State.
My experience in that city was not comfortable or profitable. We didn't sell any systems, unlike other states we had visited, but a visit to the Rotary club there was disappointing. As a Rotarian myself, we were in encouraged to visit other clubs weekly meetings when we could. I did so often. This experience left me wishing I had not come. No one greeted me. Although I was announced as a guest, nothing was asked of me and the group of Rotarians didn't even acknowledge I was there. They were too busy talking about their beloved football team - the Cornhuskers.
