The end of the Journey

And now we are about to leave that part of Spain we call Andalucia. With the footprints of many great cultures that have populated it, the Andalusian region rises rich and diverse, remote and present, elevating the beauty of its contrasts. Still more attraction than the cuisine, the folklore, the tradition, the narrow winding streets, the whitewashed walls and flower-bedecked balconies are the Andalusian people who are as warm and friendly as those we would find at home.

To have visited Andalucia is a pleasure to the senses. To visit villages that go back to the remotest of times. To walk the "Pueblos Blancos"; amongst their windows and balconies filled with flowers against contrasting and dazzling white walls. To witness the wide artistic heritage represented to a great extent by religious architecture: the Alcazar, the Cathedral and Giralda of Seville; the Alhambra and Generalife of Granada; and the Monestario San Miguel of Puerto De Santa Maria. To behold the contrasting white of the houses against the orchards and olive groves that somehow adapt to the unmerciful environment. And then to ride the highways practically hewn into the resisting rock face of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

The rich nature in Andalusia offered us the sea, the mountains, the plains and cities and towns enveloped in a historical ambience that, at times was as magical as the legends.

Goodbye Andalucia - to perhaps return one day to capture what time forestalled during this short but most exhilarating and fulfilling experience.
